How To Unblock all 7 Chakras Using Extremely Easy, Yet Effective Techniques

In this article, you will find the most effective ways on how to unblock chakras at home without an energy healer. As a Reiki Practitioner, I have worked with Chakras closely and have researched and used various methods on how to unblock chakras over the years. Chakras can seem a bit intimidating at first, but aligning them at home is fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

What are the 7 Chakras?

Chakras are energy centers within our subtle body that reside along the spinal column. Their placement is said to overlap with important nerve plexuses and glands. They are therefore considered to be a gateway between our physical and energetic self in energy medicine and yoga. When they are functioning in a healthy way, the energy flow within your body is open and you can live life much more fully.

Chakras have appeared in the ancient Indian Vedas and yoga Upanishads that were written between 1500 and 500 BCE. The Chakra system and Kundalini yoga as we know it comes from the Tantric Tradition of Yoga.1

What Does A Blocked Chakra Mean?

An unbalanced chakra can be closed or excessively open. According to yoga, the Life energy force (also known as Chi or Prana) passes through channels or nadis within our subtle body. Blockages in these energy centers can manifest physical symptoms within us. Deficient chakras can prevent you from expressing its traits, while excessive chakras can make you overexpress them.

How to Unblock Your 7 Chakras

According to the Chakraboosters founder, Vickie Howie, excessive chakras do not need to be corrected because expansion of energy is a good thing. Instead of that, we should focus on expanding its adjacent chakra so that they can balance each other. For Example, if your root chakra is excessive, focus on boosting your sacral chakra and vice versa.

Yoga for Chakra Balancing

Attending a yoga class is one of the best ways to balance your seven chakras. I have found yoga to be one of the more beneficial techniques with long-term effects.

Meditation

How to Unblock Chakras through Visualization Meditation with Colors

  • Chakras correspond to the same frequency as certain colors and therefore visualization through colors is one of the most commonly used techniques to balance chakras.
  • Close your eye and start at the bottom of your spine and visualize your root chakra as a red dot and breathe into it with the intention of feeling safe. As you breathe into it, visualize the dot getting bigger and bigger for 30 seconds. Repeat this for all the chakras and visualize their corresponding colors and intention as dots that expand.

How to Unblock Chakras with Bija Mantra and Mudra Chakra Meditation

  • For a Deeper Chakra Meditation, incorporate Bija mantras and mudras. Bija mantras are seed sounds that stimulate our chakra energy.2
  • Yoga mudras are hand positions and placements that create a specific energy circuit in the body.3

Journaling

Journaling on the traits of a chakra helps release false beliefs that may be contributing to those energy blockages. While journaling is effective, there is a caveat to it. One must have a basic understanding of the chakra energy system to ensure that you are focusing on the right one

Chakra Journaling

These are some classic journal prompts for chakra alignment through the limiting beliefs

  • Root Chakra Prompts
    • Am I in my body and being present in small tasks or am I constantly thinking about something?
    • Do I always try to follow family or societal rules in order to “belong” somewhere?
  • Sacral Chakra Prompts
    • Do I feel comfortable saying no when I am overextended?
    • Can I go with the flow and be spontaneous?
  • Solar Plexus Chakra Prompts
    • Do I procrastinate a lot?
    • Do I set boundaries?
  • Heart Chakra Prompts
    • Do I love myself just as I am?
    • Am I holding love back because I am afraid of being vulnerable?
    • Have I allowed myself to fully be with and feel my emotions?
  • Throat Chakra Prompts
    • Do I speak up when I need to or am I always silent or self-editing?
    • Do I say things to trigger others? Am I a good listener?
  • Third Eye Chakra Prompts
    • Am I close-minded?
    • Can I empathize with others?
    • Do I see others as heading down the “wrong” path
  • Crown Chakra Prompts
    • Has everything happened for a reason in my lives?
    • Do I see God through the filter of my limitations? Am I tolerant of all religions and paths?

Chakra Dancing

Chakra Dancing uses archetypes and physical movement to move the energy in your body. Archetypes are a major component of Jungian psychology. In her book, Chakras and Their Archetypes, Ambika Wauters relates the classic archetypes to our 7 chakras. When a Chakra is blocked, we are functioning from its dysfunctional archetype.

For example, the Heart Chakra positive archetype is the Lover who open to love and not afraid of being vulnerable or getting hurt. By dancing like one, you start that energy and you will instantly find yourself becoming more open and less critical.

Crystals

According to energy medicine, when we come into proximity with high vibrational objects such as crystals, we can align ourselves to its energy because it works directly on our subtle energy body.

It should be noted that there is no scientific evidence that crystals work. The evidence related to crystals is anecdotal. I personally did not take crystals seriously until I tried my first crystal and have found them to be quite effective.

Crystals for Chakras
  • Root Chakra Crystals: A blocked root chakra is associated with feeling scattered . Meditating with a root chakra crystal or taping a piece of black tourmaline to the bottom of spine will help you feel grounded and present in an instant.
  • Sacral Chakra Crystals: Consider using these stones when you are struggling with being in the flow and find yourself getting too rigid with your daily schedule. I especially love orange calcite on days like these. It not only brightens the day but also inspires creativity.
  • Solar Plexus Chakra Crystals: If you find yourself procrastinating or having willpower/disciple issues, try using Tiger’s Eye or Pyrite. Citrine is great for confidence and pyrite is also amazing for boundary issues. I have found that I speak up more for myself when I carry a pyrite with me. Putting a piece of tiger’s eye on my solar plexus area while working helps me with productivity without the jittery coffee side effects.
  • Heart Chakra Crystals: Crystals such as Rose Quartz are said to encourage self-love and love towards others. Amazonite is said to balance the yin and yang forces within the body. Malachite protects you from negative energy and opens you up to love.
  • Throat Chakra Crystals: Blue Lace Agate helps blocked throat chakra with speaking your truth, while Sodalite helps with authenticity.
  • Third Eye Chakra Crystals: Amethyst is also known as the calming stone and beneficial if you are unable to access your intuition because you are an overthinker. Labradorite helps you go deeper into your intuition and is one of the most popular crystals used for lucid dreaming.
  • Crown Chakra Crystals: The crown crystals are generally white or purple in color. Selenite is a high vibrational stone and clears negative attachments and energy blockages within the crown chakra. Howlite is the stone of awareness and enables you to receive divine wisdom. Lepidolite is a calming stone and helps you sleep well.

Essential oils

Using Plants and herbs for healing is an ancient practice. The energetic properties of certain essential oil can help us connect with the properties of a chakra. I have found aromatherapy to be extremely effective, especially when I applied it to my body. Please be sure to dilute these in carrier oils and consult with a licensed aromatherapist as they can be extremely concentrated.

Sound Healing

Sound healing is a very effective tool for chakra balancing. During a sound bath, you are bathed in sounds vibrations, where the brain entrains to the meditative theta state and the body moves into a process of healing and repairing itself.

I have found chakra-based sound baths and they are extremely relaxing. I have to say that it is challenging to use them at home with others around because you are supposed to listen to them without headphones. But if you have that kind of privacy, it can be very relaxing and replace meditation,

EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) works using the same principle as the Traditional Chinese Medicine Meridian Energetic system. In a state of dysfunction, there is usually an unconscious pattern blocking that energy – typically our belief system. Refer back to the journaling section and instead of journaling, you can tap through the EFT meridian points to release the energy in the blocked chakra and open it up.

Affirmations or Mantras

Affirmations or Mantras are a great way for unblocking chakra, but make a note of any resistance that you encounter while saying these affirmations. If you feel that you do not believe in them, they could increase that resistance and it may be better to go back to some of the other techniques

  • Root Chakra Affirmations

I am safe. I am protected. I am surrounded by unlimited resources. It is OK for me to take up space.

  • Sacral Chakra Affirmations

I am creative. I am a sensual goddess. I go with the flow like water. I am open to receiving joy and pleasure.

  • Solar Plexus Affirmations

I radiate confidence. I stand up for myself and stand in my power. I am a warrior. Nothing stops me from getting what I want.

  • Heart Chakra Affirmations

I open to giving and receiving love. I am worthy. I am open to being vulnerable. I am rejection proof.

  • Throat Chakra Affirmations

I can easily express my needs and feelings. I express myself with clarity. I only speak from a place of authenticity and love. I know when it is time to listen.

  • Third Eye Chakra Affirmations

I can easily express my needs and feelings. I express myself with clarity. I only speak from a place of authenticity and love. I know when it is time to listen.

  • Crown Chakra Affirmations

I am whole. I am at peace with myself. I am deeply connected with the wisdom and oneness of the universe. All I need is within me.

Chakraboosters Tattoos

While this may sound like a marketing ploy, it actually works. Chakrabooster tattoos are my go to method for balancing a specific chakra when I need a quick, yet powerful fix.

I was skeptical that a temporary tattoo could fix my Chakra issues, but I read the testimonials and decided to try them out. I remember putting my first root Chakra tattoo on and felt instantly grounded and present all day. When I put on the Solar plexus Tattoo, I am instantly more productive. So these tattoos do work for me and many others who have tried them.

Conclusion

You will find that some methods work for you better than others. Listen to the wisdom of your body and stick to those tools on a daily basis. I have experienced tremendous benefits from these alignment practices and go back to them every single day.

Also, keep in mind that the chakra system is called “a system” for a reason. They work hand in hand and are interdependent. Understanding your weaker ones is the first step, but understanding how they interact with one another is a game-changer.
